#005: “I Look Like a Cheeto!”
Every time I’ve thought about using a bronzer my mind conjures up the image of Ann Hathaway in “Bride Wars”. Yes, I know hers was a spray tan, but in my mind, same thing. And her friend used it against her as a weapon. What was supposed to be a “sun kissed glow” ended up looking like she was dipped in a giant bag of Cheetos.
So when my company announced we were launching bronzers, I pretended to be so excited, but secretly? I was gripped with fear. I mean, I’m not a “professional”. I wouldn’t have any idea how to choose the right color since I’ve always struggled with the question, “what shade are you, Light, Medium or Dark?” It’s not a straightforward question for someone who has freckles.
To further add to my bronzer anxiety,I saw photos of people who put it on their legs. So of course I wondered how high up you would go with it. Where is the “line”? I saw another friend post that the bronzer didn’t rub off on her sheets. “I have white sheets”, I thought. “How can I take the risk?”
Finally, I asked an esthetician friend all my questions. Here’s what she said:
Start with a lighter color, you can always add layers to make it darker
Use a brush or blending sponge to blend for even coverage
Let dry before putting clothing over it
Don’t put it on the back of your legs and sit on a white chair
Easily washes off with water, so wash before bed to avoid getting on sheets
I’ve ordered my bronzer. I chose the “light” shade, and I’m actually feeling pretty good about trying it. Worst case scenario, I wash it off, right? That’s exactly how I got over my fear of eyebrow pencils.
